New update is coming to the Google Camera app, but it seems to be incremental
Considering that Google’s Camera on Pixel phones is heavily boosted by software, whenever an update comes, we’re interested to see what it offers. This time around, we’re not getting anything new, though, by the looks of it. The update that is arriving is marked as version ‘8.4.600’, up from version ‘8.4.500’. When it comes to Google Camera updates, these numbers do mean a lot. If the first number changes, we’re looking at a major overhaul. A change to the second number (4), usually means new features are coming. In this case, the last three digits changed, and that usually means no major differences. That seems to be the case. I’ve received the update this morning, and quite frankly don’t see any differences. Google’s changelog seems to agree with that.
If it didn’t arrive to you yet, it will soon
As is usually the case with such updates, it’s rolling out in stages. So, you may not get it straight away. Keep your eyes open, though, as it should arrive in the near future via the Google Play Store. We haven’t seen an update to the Google Camera in a while now, so this is always nice to see, even if it brings bug fixes and improvements. Even on the Pixel 4a, that I’m currently using as my daily driver, that camera works great. That phone is using a really old main camera sensor, and Google really managed to pull out the best from it. In fact, it seems like the upcoming Pixel 6a will come with the same exact sensor. That is only a testament to Google’s camera software.
