New Google Recorder update brings some aesthetic changes

The Pixel-exclusive Google Recorder app is really an insane piece of software. This is because it uses Google’s top-tier AI technology for accurate voice dictation and it has some useful features. With the Pixel 6, it got better because it can use the voice dictation tool without even connecting to the internet. It got the Material You design aesthetic previously, but Google launched a new update to the Google Recorder app that makes some noticeable changes. Firstly, the play/pause button was originally a rounded rectangle that took most of the bottom, but now, it’s a circle. Instead of being smaller, by comparison, the skip forward and skip back buttons are the same size as the play/pause button. This gives it more of a balanced appearance. When you’re recording, that circle turns into a rounded square rather than a pill shape. Before, the waveform section would start right above the play controls and continue up to the very top of the screen. After the new update, it sits in its own rounded square in the middle of the screen. It stops right under the back, search, clip, and menu buttons. Right under the waveform section, we see the Audio and Transcript options. Those used to be in their own separate pill-shaped housings, but they’re now in a switcher.

There’s also a new feature in the app

The changes aren’t only fashionable, there’s added functionality to the app. With the new update, Google Recorder added a new quick settings tile. When you tap on the tile, it will automatically start recording. You’ll see a notification showing the recording status. This is a useful shortcut to get a quick recording done without having to access the app. This update is currently rolling out, so if you don’t see it just yet, you’ll need to wait. To check if your app is up to date, hold down on the app icon and go to the “App Info”. There, scroll all the way down to the bottom. You should see the version number of the app (you’re looking for the version number 3.5). If you don’t see it, tap on App Details and it will take you to the app’s Play Store page. Check there to see if you have an update available.
