People like to edit their messages and social media posts. This is why Twitter users put up such a fight to edit their tweets. That functionality is available to Twitter Blue users in the US and other countries. As for WhatsApp, we’ve been following the leaks and rumors about this platform letting you edit your messages. It’s been in development for a while, and people using the beta version may be able to see it in action.
Message editing on WhatsApp seems like it will be pretty strict
So far, we’ve been able to discover a little bit about this feature. As you can imagine, after you edit a message, you’ll see a little “edited” button within the bubble. This lets people know that you have changed your message. We’re not sure if tapping on the “edited” button will show the original message. Just like with Twitter, once you post a message, you will have a limited amount of time to edit it. In the case of Twitter, it’s 30 minutes; however, in the case of WhatsApp, it’s half that time. Once you post a message, you will only have 15 minutes to edit it before you lose the ability. Also, when you edit a message, the app can’t guarantee that it will be edited for all recipients. It seems that, if you want the recipient to see the edited message, they will need to have their device turned on within a day. If not, then WhatsApp will not be able to communicate with your phone and change the message. This functionality is still being tested, so you have no idea when exactly it will make it to the public. If you are a beta tester, then you should expect to see this functionality at some point in the near future. If not, then you’re just going to have to wait for more updates on this story.
